John Charles Prida, 83, of Brooksville went home to his Heavenly Father on November 16, 2016, under the loving care of his family and Hospice. Born in Tampa, Florida, John moved to Brooksville from the Palm Harbor area 20 years ago. He graduated from Jesuit High School in Tampa, where he held the state record for the Broad Jump. John served in the U.S. Army and then began a career in the construction business as a building contractor.
In 1974, John gave his life to Jesus Christ, whom he has followed faithfully ever since. His godly example has made an impression on his family and countless others. He served as a member of New Hope Assembly of God Church, where he played percussion instruments. He was an avid Gator fan, gifted carpenter, and prolific painter in oil, acrylic, and watercolor.
A devoted husband and loving Father, John enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty, of Brooksville, FL; 5 Children: Lora Pancoast and her husband, Russ, of Brooksville, FL; Joanna Gerakios and her husband, Nick, of Winterville, NC; Mary Fairchild and her husband, Bill, of Largo, FL; Susan Chastain and her husband, Russ, of Ft. McCoy, FL; John M. Prida, and his wife, Alisen, of Longwood, FL; 8 Grandchildren and his sister Denise Shea and her husband, Ed of Brandon, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to HPH Hospice, 12107 Majestic Boulevard, Hudson, FL 34667 (www.hph-hospice.org)
